摘要

Amphoteric surfactants are charged in both positive and negative ways. The positive charge is almost always ammonium; however, the source of the negative charge may vary (carboxylate, sulfate, and sulfonate). Amphoteric surfactant, alkyl amido propyl betaine, was synthesized using oleic acid and N, N-dimethyl lauryl amine via amidation reaction. After that, the amidation product was treated with sodium chloroacetate to form an alkyl amido betaines surfactant. Various surfactant properties including foaming, emulsion, CMC, surface tension, and wetting were studied. Compared with most anionic surfactants and some nonionic surfactants, betaine surfactants are generally very mild to skin and mucous membranes. It was observed that the surface tension of oleic amido propyl betaine is 30.96 mN/m. Amphoteric surfactants are charged in both positive and negative ways.
