摘要

The escalating demand for energy and the environmental concerns associated with fossil fuels have intensified the pursuit of sustainable and renewable energy sources. Biomass, as a carbon-neutral and abundantly available resource, has emerged as a promising alternative fuel. This study presents a comprehensive investigation into the efficiency and sustainability of various biomass feedstocks, including agricultural residues, woody biomass, and energy crops, for use as alternative fuels. The thermochemical and physicochemical properties of selected biomass types were analyzed, with particular attention to calorific value, moisture content, ash composition, and combustion characteristics. Experimental evaluations were conducted using both direct combustion and co-firing methodologies to assess performance metrics such as thermal efficiency, emission profiles, and energy yield. Life cycle assessment (LCA) was employed to examine the environmental sustainability of biomass utilization in comparison with conventional fossil fuels. The results demonstrate that, with appropriate preprocessing and conversion techniques, biomass fuels can achieve competitive energy efficiency and significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions. The study concludes that biomass holds substantial potential to contribute to a diversified, cleaner energy mix, although challenges related to feedstock logistics, land use, and technology optimization remain. Future research should focus on integrated biomass supply chains and advanced conversion technologies to enhance the viability of biomass as a mainstream energy source.
