King Chulalongkorn Rama V: A Blend of Modernity and Traditionalism
摘要
King Chulalongkorn Rama V was the fifth monarch of Siam (Thailand), was born in 1853 and died in 1910. He has striven intensively to build the Thai nation and promote its national identity based on the concept of ‘chat’ (loosely meaning ‘nation’), monarchy, and religion. Likewise, he commissioned the writing of Thai history, built a national museum and a national library, and improved the local educational system. In fact, his leadership emphasized both traditionalism and modernity as a means of national survival. His leadership implies formative educational leadership consisting of curiosity-feeding, the introduction of new education technology, intercultural sensitivity, and priority to followers.
