Concept of Spinal Fusion Device Promoting Bone Matrix Orientation and Its Application to Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Spinal fusion is a surgical procedure aimed at limiting pathological motion between mobile vertebral segments or facet joints to alleviate pain and improve neurological symptoms [1]. In recent years, advancements in minimally invasive surgical techniques, diversification of implantable devices, and improvements in bone grafting technologies have significantly enhanced clinical outcomes [2]. Among these factors, the reliability of early bone fusion remains critical to postoperative success, driving continuous improvement in bone graft materials and interbody cages [3]. This chapter provides an overview of recent developments in interbody fusion device design and clinical application from the novel perspective of osteoalignment—a concept emphasizing the structural orientation of the bone matrix.
