Research on Noise Distribution in Residential Areas Based on Urban Section and Profile Graph: A Case Study of Nanjing

With the acceleration of urbanization and the increase in population density, noise pollution has become a major factor adversely affecting residents’ quality of life. The correlation between noise and urban form has been widely confirmed. However, existing studies have mainly focused on noise distribution along a single dimension, failing to capture its continuous variation in three-dimensional (3D) space. This study proposes a method combining urban sectional analysis and noise simulation, using typical residential samples from Nanjing and applying CadnaA for noise simulation, generating sectional noise distribution graphs to analyze noise variation in 3D space. The findings show that building layout and height significantly influence noise propagation and attenuation, resulting in noticeable variations in noise intensity across different areas and building components. This method offers a new perspective for understanding the complex effects of urban morphology on noise propagation and provides theoretical support for optimizing urban noise management to improve residents’ quality of life.
