National School of Art

During my 1 month stay at Changsha, the Hangzhou National School of Art was asked to amalgamate with the Peking National School of Art by the Ministry of Education. The new combined school was officially located at Laoya River, on the northern side of Yuan River in Yuanling, Xiangxi, Hunan. The administrative responsibility was shifted from a principal to a school committee led by Lin Fengmian and Zhao Taimou, the principal of Peking National School of Art. Chang Shuhong, the director of Western painting, was appointed as the Associate Committee member. During the next few days we moved via boats, through Dongting Lake, to Changde, stayed there for about 10 days, and then took a shuttle bus to Yuanling (Figs. 8.1 and 8.2).
