National Mourning

In September 1976, shortly after the defection of Vice Chairman Lin Biao, the great leader Chairman Mao also passed away. Soon after, the Four Person Gang collapsed overnight. Deng Xiaoping gloriously presided over the party and state affairs. He first cleared the miscarriages of justice during the Cultural Revolution, and then removed the hats of the Rightists. The whole country presented a great situation. Not to mention Yixing County, even in the small town of Heqiao, people appealing for redress were heard every day. But I still hid in the countryside, enjoying my humble abode, and remained motionless. Even township officials came to mobilize me to seize the opportunity to appeal, believing that it was a rare chance that should not be missed.
