In Chongqing

Chongqing, had become the temporary capital for the Chinese Government and was subject to heavy Japanese air raids. Many people died, even in the security shelters due to the lack of oxygen and resulting anoxia. Terror haunted the city. Thanks to Mr. Fang Ganmin, we were able to stay at a temporary house on the northern bank of the Jialing River. In this more settled state, I could finally start on transferring to another school and finding myself a job while at the same time continuing my art practice of painting. I thought it would be two completely different experiences of learning at The Central University and in my previous School, so that it might be hard to transfer to the art department at The Central University, unless I could find Xu Beihong. He was my distant relative. However, my efforts in transferring to the art school ended in failure. The department was managed by Lu Sibai and Wu Zuoren. A letter from my previous school alone was not sufficient. I then tried to find Mr. Pan Shu, as he was a pledged brother student with my dad and now chaired the University’s Psychology Department. Thinking that he might be able to help me, I found him in the Sha Pingba.
