Overview of Digital Architectures to Foster Sustainability
摘要
This chapter will provide a holistic overview on available architectural strategies and approaches in the context of digital systems to support sustainability objectives. These are indeed key requirements on multiple levels—government legislations impose more and more stringent sustainability requirements, manufacturers desire to position themselves as key innovators in the field of sustainability, and customers expect that manufacturers design products in accordance with green design principles. Example strategies include shutting down of temporarily unused parts of a component or system, adapting the performance to the actual needs while minimizing expenses in terms of energy consumption, and applying semantic and goal-oriented communication principles to minimize the over-the-air capacity requirements, etc.
