Afterword

This final chapter logically concludes and synthesizes the central arguments developed across the book and reiterates the critical significance of combined posthuman-postcolonial inquiry for the expansion and reinvigoration of both fields. By briefly revisiting the material agencies of four key types of technologies (automobiles, camera technologies, information and communication technologies, and weapons), it recapitulates that contemporary Pakistani Anglophone fiction is a rich site for posthuman analysis. By reassessing the diverse, multidimensional, and multifaceted arguments throughout the book, the chapter concludes that technological alterities in these texts operate through agential realism and occupy ambivalent positions, oscillating between global and local contexts and between emancipatory, neutral, and destructive effects. It further argues that a more comprehensive understanding of posthuman agency in postcolonial locations requires interdisciplinary academic engagement across the social sciences, natural sciences, humanities, cultural studies, and computational fields. Finally, the chapter signposts future research directions and stresses the urgency of locally grounded scholarship to better apprehend the contingent politico-ethico-onto-epistemology of technology in postcolonial societies.
