Resilient Infrastructures: Creation of a Global Knowledge Repository for Corrosion Engineering and Materials Selection Using AI

摘要

Corrosion poses a significant challenge to a wide range of sectors, resulting in substantial economic and safety consequences. It is also an essential issue in resilience considerations for our infrastructure and industry. As industries increasingly rely on advanced materials and sophisticated engineering systems, there is a growing need for an integrated, comprehensive, and accessible knowledge base to guide materials selection and corrosion prevention strategies. This paper explores the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies such as ChatGPT, for the development of a global knowledge repository in corrosion engineering. The paper begins with an overview of the industrial relevance of corrosion, outlines the current state-of-the-art in AI and NLP, and concludes by proposing a framework for constructing an intelligent, AI-driven repository that synthesizes scientific literature, industry reports, and empirical data for decision support in materials engineering.
