These actions help prevent the growth of harmful pathogens and strengthen the immune system’s defense against infections. Probiotics are increasingly used in animal nutrition as a substitute for antibiotics, offering advantages such as enhanced digestion, immune response, and overall well-being across various species, including ruminants, poultry, swine, aquaculture species, and companion animals. The use of probiotics dates back to ancient practices involving fermented foods, with contemporary research expanding their potential applications, focusing on the identification of specific probiotic strains for optimized performance. Consequently, probiotics present a sustainable approach to boosting livestock productivity, reducing reliance on antibiotics, and improving food safety.
