The Need for Green Alternatives in Animal Health
摘要
There is an urgent need for revolutionizing conventional veterinary practices to overcome the growing risk of antibiotic resistance, ethical and environmental issues caused by conventional practices. Green alternatives, including plant-based therapies, probiotics/prebiotics, and organic feed provide sustainable solutions to improve animal health and alleviate environmental damage. Therefore, this chapter focuses on the challenges of conventional veterinary practices, the role of green alternatives, and the economic and policy aspects influencing their implementation. The implementation of green alternatives establishes a sustainable framework, providing advantages for ensuring food security, animal health, and a sustainable environment. All stakeholders need to cooperate through policymaking towards achieving sustainable veterinary practices by enforcing regulations that advocate green alternatives over antibiotic misuse. For making green alternatives, cost-effective, accessible, and effective, researchers should focus on the development of green alternatives. For the successful implementation of green alternatives, veterinarians, and farmers must adopt sustainable practices and leverage advanced training and education.
