Neoclassical economics, which is the current mainstream economics, does not fully explain the material foundation of the human economy. It disregards the material aspects of production and consumption, and does not consider gifts of nature to be indispensable to the human economy. Thus, “waste-free economics” is free from the material base. First, in this chapter, I would like to look back on the history of economics and examine the process by which such economics became the mainstream.
