This chapter aims to contribute to the overarching theme of the book in shedding lights on the complicated dynamisms and contextual factors that have brought about a level of national resilience for some countries safeguarding them from being colonized. In particular, the chapter examines Iran, as a civilizational identity throughout the history. To provide an explanation of Iran’s long national resilience and territorial independence, the study proposes an overview of the country’s non-colonial history, particularly since 1400 AD, supporting a trilateral analytical foundation including socio-cultural richness, political resistance, geopolitical balance, and environmental advantages. As such, the study shows that the Iranian national resilience is derived from a form of Iranian-Shia Islam civilizational nexus, religious revolutionalism and nationalistic political schools of thought, geopolitical location as well as topographical diversity and strength. Altogether, the chapter contributes well into the book subject by providing a historical and contextual analysis of a relatively understudied resilient nation, Iran.

摘要
