This study constructs a green digital economy evaluation index using the entropy method and applies kernel density estimation (KDE) with data visualization tools to examine development trajectories among Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries, focusing on the Hainan Free Trade Zone (FTZ). Computational techniques reveal the temporal evolution of green digital economy levels. Results indicate a marked improvement in Hainan’s performance since 2018, aligning more closely with leading economies. This progress is attributed to digital infrastructure, innovation, and application of green technologies. Findings provide insight into regional sustainable development and demonstrate the value of modern analytical tools.
