Status and Scope of Orchid Cultivation as Pot Plants
摘要
Global floriculture exports have steadily increased over the past 5 years, with a CAGR of 3.9%. All categories—such as cut flowers, potted plants, ground cover, balcony plants, bulbs, perennials, shrubs, and trees—have experienced growth. Orchids are especially popular as ornamental plants due to their varied colours, shapes, elegant forms, sizes, and long-lasting flowers. Hybrids of Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium, Dendrobium, Oncidium, and Vanda are commonly sold as potted or cut flowers, playing a vital role in the global flower market. Potted orchids are increasingly significant, both as decorative plants and for their medicinal and other uses. This chapter covers the commercial aspects of potted orchids, including varietal details, nursery structures, pot requirements, propagation methods, growing environments, planting techniques, nutrient management, pest and disease control, harvest and post-harvest practices, and standards for quality cut flowers and potted orchids.
