Quizzes are an effective learning tool that promotes active and self-regulated learning. As research shows, quizzes are motivating, stimulate critical thinking and their regular use helps students identify gaps in their understanding of the subject matter and better retain newly acquired knowledge for a longer period of time. The benefits of quizzes are even more pronounced when the quizzes are created directly by students. In our paper, we present the Quiz module, which was developed for collaborative creation of quiz questions by students. However, after its deployment in teaching, students were not very involved in activities with this tool. To find out the reasons, we conducted qualitative research through interviews. In this paper, we present students’ opinions on this type of activity, the reasons for their low participation, and their suggestions on how to increase student engagement and how to integrate AI into this tool.
