Learning Sites: Tensions and Productive Possibilities

  • Lucas Walsh,

摘要

For this Learning section of the Handbook, we will not explore the more conventional dimensions of learning such as pedagogy or curriculum but instead deliberately focus on sites of learning. The chapters to follow highlight the breadth of sites in which children and young people learn, and the tensions and productive possibilities within them. Of particular interest are the cultural, political, social, and economic dimensions that shape different sites of learning. Each of the authors make a valuable contribution to this section of the Handbook, each taking a critical perspective on children and young people’s relationships with learning, in institutional and non-institutional, formal and informal ways. We therefore use the word “learning” in the broadest sense, and our definition of children and young people is equally elastic.
