MPPM Coded Modulation Signal Analysis

This chapter first describes the basic principles of multipulse position modulation (MPPM), defines its performance parameters, such as transmission capability, transmission efficiency, and bandwidth utilization, and compares the performance of MPPM and pulse-position modulation (PPM) in terms of bandwidth and power utilization. Subsequently, an expression of optical MPPM channel capacity in the protected period is derived, and the channel capacity, information transmission rate, and channel-capacity energy efficiency of MPPM and PPM are compared.
