Home Healthcare in Children with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD)

Enormous advancements were made in recent years with regard to the care/treatment of infants and children with congenital heart disease (CHD), and have significantly improved morbidity and mortality rates. Cardiac care in these patients includes multi-stage treatment procedures such as the so-called “single ventricle palliation” in newborns with aortic hypoplasia and among many other complex CHD, which entail significant time gaps between the various stages of surgical and catheter-based interventions. Due to the nature of the existing CHD and its management, those infants/children require intensive monitoring between such procedures and beyond. In this context, Home Monitoring Programs play more and more an important role in the maintenance and continuation of quality of care at home.
