Finite Element Formulations

This chapter describes the fundamental concepts of displacement-based finite element formulations. Starting from the basic ideas of structural engineering and classification of finite elements, it provides the mathematical formulations for computation of linear stiffness matrix for Rod, Beam, Planar, Axisymmetric shell, Axisymmetric solid, Plate, and Brick finite elements.
