Cardiac Patch

Myocardial infarction (MI), namely, heart attack, occurs when acute or persistent ischemia and hypoxia of the coronary artery leads to narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. Cardiac patch is a new and promising therapeutic technique to repair cardiac tissue after injury. The design and preparation of cardiac patch has developed rapidly in recent years. Centered on the fabrication of cellularized cardiac patch as well as the raw materials selection and fabrication techniques based on the theory of the tissue engineering or regenerative medicine (TERM), this chapter mainly summarizes the development of cardiac patch in terms of biological and physical properties of cardiac patch.
