Diseases of Seed Spices

Diseases caused by fungal pathogens are important biotic constraints in the production of seed spices in India. A few bacteria and viruses also cause diseases in some seed spice crops. Some of these diseases severely affect the quality and quantity of the produce. Adoption of environment-friendly disease management schedules is more relevant in these crops since excessive use of fungicides could lead to harmful residues in the produce and other ecological hazards. Due to limited availability of resistant sources, eco-friendly methods such as cultural and biological methods have been recommended for the management of these diseases.
