Health, safety and well-being of employees and neighbors are critical to the success of any industrial operation. This includes operating the facilities in a responsible manner to ensure no damage is done to the environment and ecological balance is not disturbed. The concepts of Environmental Health and Safety; Personal and Process Safety and Security (EHSS) aspects associated with the management of water and wastewater in petroleumPetroleum industrial facilities are discussed in this chapter. Monitoring, prevention, mitigation of hazards, and reporting impacts of accidental or intentional hazardous releases are also included. The discussions are focused on the overall goal for EHSS in increasing environmental sustainability and preventing harmful events. These relate mainly to the operation of water and wastewater treatmentWastewater treatment systems for all sectors of petroleumPetroleum industry including upstream, midstream, downstream and marketing operations.
