Liquid Metal Magnetic Device

Multifunctional magnetic devices are playing an increasingly important role in industrial production and daily life. The recently emerged liquid metal magnetic devices are one of the important categories. On the one hand, liquid metal with electrical conductivity and fluidity has unique performances in magnetic fields, which enables inductors, electromagnetic actuators, etc. On the other hand, liquid metals can be endowed with magnetism by doping magnetic particles into them, thereby realizing soft devices such as sensors, grippers, soft robots, etc. In this chapter, we will summarize and analyze these two types of liquid metal magnetic devices, with special attention on their preparation, characterization, and applications. Further, directions and unresolved challenges will be outlined for guiding the subsequent potential. It is expected that this paper can contribute to the further development of liquid metal magnetic devices.
