Critical Whiteness in Education

Education is the bastion of creating and curating knowledge to make meaning of the world around self and others. The epistemological foundation that determines what knowledge is deemed useful and valued has a broader impact on how people engage with such perspectives. If a certain perspective or practice is seen as irrelevant, then it is relegated to the margins. In this Critical Whiteness in Education section of the handbook, authors expose the marginalization of certain epistemologies and pedagogies, highlighting the need to create critical conversations to ensure diverse knowledges and their perspectives and practices are included in education. Failure to do this will continue to create educational spaces within Western contexts that privilege Whiteness and its accompanying knowledge base that is taught in schools, colleges, universities, and beyond.
