Uneven Development and Migration: A Populist Perspective

In neo-liberal times of jobless growth, even internal migration has increasingly become a deeply divisive issue in India, both politically and economically. As the clamor for the reservation of jobs rises, the elected government often turns populist, with policy announcements for entitlements for the locals, in violation of the constitutional rights for anyone to work anywhere in India. Such populist tendency is set to rise unless balanced regional development is not adopted as a development strategy.
