Democratic Sovereignty and Populism

Regardless of whether populism is traced within the electoral context or outside of it, the question of sovereignty seems to offer a vantage point for understanding it from a theoretical perspective. The insights it offers help one look beyond the “demos” and more closely at the significance of those democratic mediators who act sometimes as middlemen between a flourishing democracy and the rise of populism.
