New Populism v/s Elitism in Contemporary Art
摘要
New Populism in art has given rise to countless art exhibitions and biennales which deviate from the traditional rules set by gatekeeping institutions like museums, galleries, and art collectors. While the Elitists insist on maintaining the exclusivity and preservation of art (thereby emphasizing the need for gatekeeping institutions), the populist demand for affordable art and mass production of art pieces assert the democratization and accessibility of art. This article tends to understand the current dynamics of populism and elitism in the modern American art industry.
