Civil Society and Populism
摘要
The study describes the varied yet nebulous nature of the term civil society (CS) and its relat usage by populist discourses. The preliminary attempts include conceptualizing the terminology and describing the derivatives of CS in populist regimes. The later paper of the paper delves into those derivatives in detail, which portrays itself as a movement as antithesis to populist strategies. The performativity of CS through civil society organizations (CSOs) is a notable feature both supporting populist strategies and critiquing. This difference between populism and its key derivative civil society is also initiated. The diversified role of the CS as a passive political negotiator to that of the active community mobilizer or initiator of the massive social movement is being studied against the backdrop of populist discourses.
