Vocational Education and Training in Indonesia

With the advanced development of information and technology and its consequences in labor market changes, the Indonesian Government continues providing strategies and programs to produce skilled vocational education students. Efforts in terms of curriculum adjustment, teachers’ competence upgrading, and vocational education and training (VET) resource allocation are observed. Various options for vocational education provision, both formal and nonformal, along with their regulation, have been formulated to increase access in the VET sector. This chapter presents an overview of the VET system in Indonesia, addressing issues such as inclusion and equity, digital innovation, teaching practices, and labor market orientation. The chapter also critically assesses the trends and challenges facing the VET sector.
