Basic Education in Malaysia

This chapter discusses the key policies, initiatives, and programmes for basic education in Malaysia. It provides an overview of the educational scenario in the Malaysian context in the country’s effort to prepare the people of Malaysia to be able to face the global context that is much driven by the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The chapter provides an overview of the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013–2025 (MEB 2013–2025) which guides the educational reforms and refinements to the education system. There is also discussion on the curriculum which guides the system and has gone through review to address the needs of the nation. The section on teacher education in Malaysia addresses the training of competent teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge required of twenty-first-century educators. Related issues of among others, access, quality, and digital technologies as it relates to basic education are also reviewed.
