The United Nations is the world’s largest international organization. The relationship between Israel and the UN has been complex and often contentious, marked by cooperation and conflict. This relationship has been significantly influenced by the intractable Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has been a central issue on the UN agenda for decades. This chapter reviews several manifestations of these relations in major UN sub-bodies and agencies, such as the Security Council, General Assembly, Human Rights Council, UNRWA, and UNESCO, and explains the contestation over key issues such as Resolution 242, UN peacekeeping effectiveness, and bias in UN work over issues concerning Israel.
