摘要

The health of livestock and poultry is a significant concern due to their major contribution to agricultural output. Infectious diseases pose a major threat to this output as they account for economic losses and risk for zoonotic transmissions. Hence, rapid detection methods for diagnosing veterinary pathogens are highly desirable. Early disease intervention for veterinary infections requires on-site pathogen detection. Conventional diagnostic methodologies lack the ability to provide point-of-care detection and also possess numerous other limitations. However, nanosensors offer a great advantage in providing the best application for pathogen detection for animal health management. This technology is an emerging market for producing accurate health status of animals and can offer numerous advantages for contributing to precision livestock farming. This review discusses the scope of different nanosensors for animals and the uses of these nanosensors as diagnostic techniques for detecting various infectious diseases in livestock. It also enlists the advantages of nanosensors over conventional diagnostic methods and the major drawbacks associated with conventional methods in the domain of disease detection. The chapter provides an insight into all the recent advancements in the field of nanosensors regarding their applications for veterinary disease detection and contribution to enhanced animal welfare.
