Biosystematics of Crithopsis

The Crithopsis is a single genus. In 1851, French phytologist Hippolyte-Francois Comte de Juabert and Edouard Spach believed that the Ely-musrhachitrichus Hochst., as designated by German botanist Christian Friedrich Hochstetter, should not belong to the Elymus, but to a new genus; the Elymus rhachitrichus Hochst. is a nomen nudum, so they published in their name for the new genus and species, namely Crithopsis rhachitrichus Juab. et Spach, this is where the Crithopsis comes from.
