Comprehensive Current Limiting Method with SFCL and Virtual Current Limiting Control in MMC-HVDC

As mentioned above, the introduction of the resistive SFCL plays a significant effect in suppressing the fault current of the MMC-HVDC. Nevertheless, if the required capacity of the SFCL is sizable, the investment cost should be carefully considered. In this chapter, the authors will fully explore the current limiting potential of half-bridge MMC, introduce virtual current limiting control, and study a comprehensive current limiting method with SFCL and virtual current limiting control. It has strong scientific significance and practical requirements for accelerating the construction of flexible DC systems and improving safe and stable operation.
