Polymers are natural or synthetic substances composed of very large molecules, called macromolecules that are multiples of simpler chemical units called monomers. Biopolymers are those produced by living organisms. Many materials in living organisms including proteins, polysaccharides, and nucleic acids, are polymers (1). Two of the most important biopolymers are rubber (a polymer of hydrocarbon isoprene) and inulin (a mixture of oligo- and polysaccharides).
