Collagen mimetic peptides (CMPs) have revolutionized our understanding of collagen's structure and function, significantly contributing to insights into collagen-related diseases. CMP research has progressed from simply replicating collagen's triple helical structure to exploring its wider biological roles. Researchers have employed biophysical techniques such as Circular Dichroism, X-ray Crystallography, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, Fluorescence, and Raman Spectroscopy to delve into the structural complexities of CMPs. These peptides, initially focused on forming stable triple helices, have shown the ability to self-assemble into complex structures, leading to the creation of biomaterials with collagen-like properties. However, there remains a wealth of untapped potential and opportunities in CMP research.
