In this introduction the aim of the present volume will be explained. The focus of the volume is on important novel issues while the lessons that can be learned will be reviewed. The developments that have taken place in the healthcare, digitalization and sustainability policies take centre stage in the analysis. It will be argued that the rapidly changing world has posed new legal questions on SG(E)Is. Answers to these questions must be found and novel and creative approaches should be developed. Solidarity remains an important value in the debate on SG(E)Is. The (EU) law on SG(E)Is should address the challenges at issue in such a way that solidarity is achieved and maintained.
