This chapter sets the context and provides a general overview for the crisis perpetrated by the Jama’atul Alhul Sunnah Lidda’wati Wal Jihad (Boko Haram)Boko Haram group in Nigeria and in areas around the Lake Chad Basin regionLake Chad Basin Region. It provides a critical background to the crisis while exploring the methodology, answering the research questions and situating the crisis firmly within the context of international criminal law. The chapter also addresses the objectives and provides a general outline of the book.
