This paper examines the impact of disinformation on public opinion and societal stability in Romania, a nation facing heightened vulnerability to external influence due to its strategic position near the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Russian disinformation has targeted Romanian society with narratives that challenge NATO’s capabilities, undermine confidence in government transparency, and exploit traditional cultural values. Through an analysis of Romania’s strategic communication vulnerabilities, this paper explores the need for enhanced governmental communication strategies to counter disinformation and foster societal resilience. Recommendations include increased media literacy initiatives, a clear distinction between public and political communication, and a reinforced commitment to transparency in public diplomacy.
