The chapter analyzes the strategic significance of Black Sea security in the development of the Green Energy Corridor (GEC), which seeks to connect Central Asia and the South Caucasus with Europe. It highlights the region’s potential to supply both natural gas and renewable energy, such as hydrogen and ammonia, to the European Union. This effort is framed within the EU’s energy diversification strategy, driven by the need to reduce dependence on Russian gas and meet climate goals. The chapter outlines key projects, such as gas pipelines and power cables, while discussing the challenges of ensuring security, balancing short-term energy needs with long-term decarbonization, and the importance of securing infrastructure in a geopolitically sensitive region.
