In the last decade, particularly since February 2022, when the Russian Federation brutally brought back the ghost of war in Europe through its unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, defending the Black Sea riparian state offshore energy infrastructure has become a challenging task. The energy resources available in the area keep fuelling the geopolitical competition between the regional actors, and this reality requires constant investment in security from all of them. In this context, a multinational and multidisciplinary group of experts from countries located in the Black Sea area and beyond met back in March 2024 in Constanta, Romania, to discuss how critical offshore energy assets can efficiently be protected and defended. This chapter presents the most relevant conclusions withdrawn from their work, with particular focus on the response solutions in case of need.
