Public Health Considerations of Typical Contaminants at Military Brownfields Sites: Overview
摘要
This manuscript provides an overview of military brownfields and contamination associated with these sites. Military brownfields are a subset of brownfields and share similar contamination concerns as brownfields in general, such as lead, metals, petroleum, per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances, and other hazardous chemicals. Military brownfields may also contain other chemical contaminants, including volatile organic compounds and jet fuel, which can impact drinking water, as well as unexploded ordnance, and radioactive waste. Exposure to contaminants at military brownfields, whether active or inactive sites, may lead to adverse health effects among military personnel, their families, and civilians.
