摘要

Currently, human energy needs are primarily taken care of by the use of fossil fuels. However, the high depletion rate of its finite reservoir due to the fast-growing population is the major human concern. The use of fossil fuels is also the prime driving force for climate change because of the release of greenhouse gases (GHG). Therefore, combating the existing problem requires several suitable alternate solutions, which inspires the modern world to take them as challenges. The mitigation of these issues with the innovative biobased microbial production approach is a suitable alternative to the existing problem. Its major goal is to reduce GHG emissions and find out a new sustainable form of green bioenergy. In the recent trend, bio-jet fuel has attracted significant attention among researchers, aircraft engineers, and Government. Bio-derived higher alka(e)nes, especially in the range of C8-C17 carbon chains, are considered as next-generation bio-jet fuel due to similar characteristics with presently used jet fuels. Therefore this chapter discusses the progress and role of synthetic biology in the engineering of microbial cell factories and alternative raw materials in the production of alka(e)nes.
