From myself, and on behalf of the Handel Institute, I congratulate Professor Wolfgang Hirschmann on his birthday, and wish him many continuing years of activity. I specially thank him for his leadership of the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gesellschaft and the Hallische Händel-Ausgabe. When I first came to Halle in November 1983, it was as part of a difficult negotiation to move the Handel edition forward on an international basis, and in particular to enable positive collaboration with scholars and musicians in the English-speaking world.
