One of the aims of a music analytical endeavor is to look for the meaning of the musical text, with the further objective of uncovering the intentions of the composer and gaining insight into his/her world, and/or applying the gained knowledge for interpretative purposes. There are several methods that have been applied so far which not only encompass a certain bandwidth within musical analysis itself, but also reach beyond it to models from humanistic-cultural or philological studies. These include inter alia hermeneutical, phenomenological or semiotic models.
