Low-Frequency Electrotherapy
摘要
Direct current and pulsed currents with a direct current component trigger, among other things, an inflammation-like reaction in tissue that is directly related to wound healing and pain transmission. This process is called neurogenic inflammation, and its course is explained in detail, as are the associated mechanisms such as the axon reflex and the dorsal horn reflex. Applications are discussed, such as classical direct current in connection with neurogenic inflammation, iontophoresis, and monophasic pulsed current applications such as Bernard’s diadynamic current and Träbert’s high-intensity current (2–5 current). Detailed instructions for application are provided and the mechanisms of action are discussed.
