Mr. Steuber, you are actually a secondary school teacher. How did you become involved in the “Region of Lifesavers” project? The topic of first aid has been a common thread throughout my life since my youth, first as a member of the Youth Red Cross (JRK), then in the German Life Saving Association (DLRG). For over 25 years, I have also been active as a mountain rescuer with the Black Forest Mountain Rescue Service. At my secondary school, which is part of a school center with 1500 students, I coordinate a school first aid service and, ten years ago, I qualified as a first aid instructor (EH-Ausbilder) with the German Red Cross (DRK), primarily so I could train my school first aiders myself. Since there was only a single publicly accessible automated external defibrillator (AED) in my hometown (10,000 inhabitants), I wanted to improve the situation and, in doing so, came into contact with Professor Müller.
